And for my last trick...

To start this is the only place to be at christmas (apart from Lapland!!).

Manchester Christmas Market is the definition of what Christmas is and what it should be all about.

Spread around the city centre in St Annes Square, Brazzenose Street and the ultimate ending is the market in Albert Square with the Santa on the Town Halls roof!

The German Markets are amazing, from the food, to the hand made crafts the atmosphere is just wonderful, lots of people having a good time.

You could spend a night just tasting all of the different foods on offer - my favourite is the bratwurst stall in the centre which has a grid that swings over the hot coals!

The handfinished leathers, home made bread, fine cheeses, one off jewellery, crafts you must experience it!!!

On a cold winters night with all of the decorations and lights it it the perfect backdrop for a nice glass of wine - or german beer with friends or family!!

Its a litle bit of Christmas magic!!

Further Afield...

I thought it was about time I let you know about some of the best pubs outside of the City Centre, as most of the pubs in the city centre are full of either drunken under age girls or drunken middle aged men!!

First up is the Bent Brook in Davyhulme - accessibile by bus from Piccadilly Gardens, I dedicated a whole blog to this place a few weeks ago, a brilliant venue for music, the landlord is great and they serve food and have all sorts of themed nights!

Next up is the George and Dragon in Cheadle, another great place for live music on a Friday night and the Landlord is super crazy!! Its a real local place and gets lively a bit later on. Again you can get here by bus from the city centre.

The Garrick in Urmston is a nice pub for a nice day, a lovely big pub with a nice big garden, the staff are friendly and the drinks are reasonably priced and they serve very delicious food!

All in all, I think most people who go out to enjoy themselves rather than to purposely get hammered are flocking to out of town pubs to enjoy a nice pleasent evening!

I know I do!!!

More Food and Drink!!!!!!!!!!!

I like to keep with the theme so here comes a load of events happening in the Manchester Food and Drink Festival (yes the Salford Food and Drink Festival is mixed in with this!).

Running from 3rd - 13th October, Manchester hosts its 11th annual Food and Drink festival in and around the city.

The pick of this year’s festivity has got to be Spinningfields taste, dine and learn pavilion. Located just behind Deansgate in an array of Tipis!!

Experience Demo theatres with celeb chefs.Plant your own seed at the Urban Planting Corner.

Attend one off events and tasting sessions.

In the evenings you can relax in the Marble Arch Pub, supping on the regions best beers from the local brewers, whilst listening to some of Manchester’s best live music artists including a special performance from “I am Kloot”.

If beer isn’t for you, you can come to the Moroccan themed Tipi hideaway, chill out and enjoy a glass of wine, or a cocktail if you’re feeling adventurous!

Masterchef judge John Torode will be at the Pavilion on Saturday 4th October from 3pm. Promoting his new book, John will be demonstrating recipes from it, and later on signing copies for you.

There is even a Food and Drink Exhibition at the Royal Exchange Theatre, displaying the work of Christopher Rainham, whose work takes inspiration from food, drink and music. The display is obviously centred around food and paintings will be displayed in front of the theatres restaurant The Round.

No one is ever left out of these kinds of festivals, kiddies aged 2-4 are invited to a Teddy Bears Picnic at CUP CafĂ© on Thomas Street in Manchester on 8th October. Playing, telling stories, singing, picnicking all for just £3.50! Mums can bring babies down too for no charge. Don’t forget your teddy!!For detailed listing of what’s on visit: www.foodanddrinkfestival.com/2008.

Th Lowry this month...

What to catch at the Lowry over the coming weeks..

Catch “The Boyfriend” at the Lowry Studio Theatre from 21st * 23rd October. A musical comedy set in the 1920’s, it is about a finishing school for young ladies in the South of France. You can’t beat a laugh, some romance and a happily ever after! Tickets are £6.00.

Salford Macbeth from the National Youth Theatre looks like a certain must see with its community based 21st century adaptation of one of Shakespeares greatest works, with three crack head witches and a bloody gangland assassination. Running until Saturday 4th October, tickets are £8.00.

Over at the Lowry Galleries there’s an awfully interesting exhibition exploring the art of the pop-up! Showing work by some of the world’s leading illustrators, and even better than that is that you get an opportunity to create your very own pop up!! You can visit the exhibition until March 2009.

Another one for the kids now and it is “create your own masterpiece” time at the Lowry Galleries until November 2nd! A fund “hands on” day out for all the family, learn how Lowry created and developed his own style!

After gaining nationwide acknowledgement when the ladies of the Womens Institute in a Yorkshire town posed naked for a calendar to raise money for Charity a Hollywood movie made them inspirations to women everywhere, and now a theatrical adaptation graces the stages of The Lowry from Monday 20th - Saturday 25th October.

Autumn in Salford...

Well, as the autumn is upon us and half term is getting nearer, I thought it would be a good idea to give you a few ideas of what is going on a little further afield, perfect for a day out for the family on a dull horrible day!

There are so many events going on in Salford, I’ve narrowed them down to a select few that I think could be really good fun.

First up is the Marie Curie Zipwire event at Salford Quays on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October. If you like to think of yourself as a bit of a daredevil and are up for a challenge then this is for you! A Zipwire has been specially erected between The Quays and the Lowry Plaza. Fly across from the top of The Imperial War Museum North and land on the roof of the Lowry Plaza! There is a fee of £10.00 per person, but it’s for a good cause, it’s hoping to raise vital funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Something fun for the kids now!

In the spirit of Halloween on Friday 31st October there will be a “Witches Walk” in Blackleach Country Park, Walkden. You can join hundreds of others on a walk through the country park encountering all sorts of spooky surprises along the way, before a finale of fireworks once you’ve reached the end. The Walk is suitable for all of the family including young Children. The walk is happening between 6pm * 7pm and is absolutely free!

If you are planning to take the kids on the walk, you can also take them down to Blackleach Country Park on Thursday 30th October where they can carve their own pumpkins for the walk on Friday! This goes on between 10am * 12pm.

Coming Soon........Keep an eye out for more details on the Salford Film Festival taking place between 15th * 23rd November*

Join Celebrity chefs Andrew Nutter and Brian Mellor for cookery theatre where they will be giving demonstrations. There are taster sessions, childrens activties and an attempt to to create the worlds largest Eccles cake!!!!

To celebrate the year of the Potato, there will a best dressed spud competition for 2-10 year olds!!
