Well I have finally found a hidden gem in Manchester!
Café Mod pop is a fantastic little café located in the basement of the Pop boutique clothes store and Barbarella barbers shop. Obviously the name gives it away a bit but this is a mod café, so expect to see lots of the mod signs about the place! One of the people who work there looks like Paul Weller, which is brilliant! The staff are very friendly and provide a really great service too. It’s a vegetarian café, and the food is of a really high standard as well as being really good value for money. They serve an all day veggie breakfast as well as other meals such as a mixed bran chili, veggie bangers and mash and a hummus plate. This is the only place where you can have a peanut butter and banana toastie and they are scrummy! They sell a range of hot and cold drinks, a mug of Yorkshire tea is a pound! All food is homemade and freshly prepared in the open kitchen. When you walk into the café it feels like you have walked into the 70s! There are retro sofas and tables and vintage wallpaper which gives the place a brilliant vintage feel to it! The atmosphere is great and it’s a very comfortable place. One thing I noticed in particular was that the older generations of people feel just as comfortable as the young people in here, I went in with my mum and she commented on the same thing! Its great because it means there are a mixed bag of people old and young and the large round tables invite customers to socialize with those around them.
This is a great place to come if you are sick of the same old stuff from the high street, it’s a great little place you can just chill in! I LOVE IT!!!

Manchester Markets
Thought Id give you a little bit of info about all of the Markets in and around Manchester!
The Flower Market is located in Piccadilly Gardens in the city centre and sells all sorts of things flowery! Including exotic plants and Bonsai Trees to cut flowers bunched and single, shrubs and bulbs to name a few. It is open every Thursday, Friday and Saturday until 5pm!
The Farmers Market is also located in Piccadilly Gardens but this one is only once a month rather than weekly. Its on the second weekend of every month and runs on the Friday and Saturday. Its is purely local produce from in and around the North West and Wales. Fresh vegetables, fresh meat, home made jams, home made cakes are just a few things you can buy. Its actually the Farmers themselves that run the market which I think is a really nice authentic touch, as you can find out everything about where the produce came from and how it was made etc! A little tip – there is a stall which sells really heavenly steak rolls!!
The Fashion Market is the other weekend market in the city centre. It is located on Tib Street. Selling one off designer clothes, jewellery, bags and shoes. If you want something a little unique and different this is definitely the place to come, it is a small showcase for up and coming designers from the local area. It’s open every Saturday if you fancy a gander!
There is always Bury Market if you fancy getting away from Manchester city centre for a day. Saturday is the best day to go to this famous market. Its perfect for anything you want, especially fresh meats, fresh fish and other foods. Its a brilliant day out for sure!

A great day out for the girls!!
Keeping on the indoor ideas to escape from the horrible weather, the Triangle Shopping Centre is located in Exchange Square right opposite Selfridges. This is an ideal place to come if you’re in the mood for a girlie day out! Although there is stuff for the lads, I get the impression that a group of girls would feel right at home!
Based over 3 different floors (and obviously triangle shaped!) the Triangle is home to over 150 brands that are unique and exclusive to Manchester! Shops such as Bravissimo, Harpoon Louies (one of my personal favourites), O’Neill, Lambretta and Storm Watches are all housed here along with many more!
There are also various restaurants, Cafes and other eateries such as Caffe Nero, Pizza Express – which is perfect for a lunchtime snack, and Zinc bar and Grill, ideal for a drink or two after a days hard shopping!
The Triangle is also unique as it is home to one of Nicky Clarkes hair salons along with Skin Health Spa which specializes in skincare treatment using both traditional and new treatments.
The building itself is very impressive both outside and in, come on down if you’ve got a whole day free for fashion, food and some well deserved pampering!

First Recommendation of the week!
The Weather is supposed to be really rubbish this weekend so I would personally recommend the great combination of Film and Food. Of course the Printworks in Manchester City Centre is the perfect spot for this! You can go to the Odeon Cinema and watch a few films whilst chomping on sweets and popcorn. There are 20 screens and an iMAX theatre so there’s always a great pick of films to see. New releases this Friday are The Orphanage, Dr Suess's Horton Hears a Who! and The Spiderwick Chronicles .
Once you’ve got square eyes from staring at the big screen too long, Printworks is a great place to grab a bite to eat, amongst the various different places to eat, there is Henry J Bean which is a great bar and grill – I personally recommend this as its my favorite place to eat and sip cocktails! There is also Nandos serving its world famous Peri Peri chicken and of course the Hard Rock Café full of its music memorabilia, there’s always such a great atmosphere in there and the staff are very friendly.
When you’ve stuffed yourself with all that lovely food you can either give up and go home or you can stay and play! There are various bars and clubs inside the printworks too, Lloyds No.1 is great, playing pretty much anything mainstream as is Waxy O’Connor’s the famous Irish Bar which is always busy!
Printworks is all you need for a great day and/or night out!!

Mid Week tips
Heres a few nights out I found, maybe just to break up the week a bit!!
The comedy store at Deansgate Locks hosts Stand up Wednesday (ona wednesday night!). It kicks of at 8pm and hosts 3 top stand up acts for you to split your sides to!!
The Ritz nightclub hosts Love Train on a Wednesday night from 10pm, admission ranges from £3 - £5. Its a 70's night with its own stage show! Definetley worth a look if you want to have some mid week fun!!
As it is Easter weekend, and the kids are off school, a good cheap day out for a family is the Manchester Art Gallery on Mosely Street. Admission is free and until 01/07/08 the Button World exhibition is on. With buttons of all shapes, colours and sizes, there are various activities for the kids including dressing up and a giant connect four game! This sounds like fun for all the family - especially those who are just big kids at heart!!
Last but not leaset, for all of you fashionistas out and about, Matthew Williamson is celebrating 10 years as a designer and the Urbis in Manchester is hosting an exhibition of his work, spanning back to his days as a fashion student. It is free admission, for more info on opening times etc, go to www.urbis.org.uk.
Thats it for now,
Have a good week!

My pick for this weekend
Well its that lovely time of the week again!!
This weekend in Manchester i would recommend a little walk around - if its not raining! If you're getting a little bored of the main stream high street stores, go a little off the beaten track this weekend and talk a walk up Oldham street, and veer off down the side streets! If youre after something a little different then Oldham street and its surrounding areas is perfect! Full of record shops, little boutique type shops and cafes i find it refreshing to wander around! Afflecks Palace is around that area too and it is just amazing in there!
You can find my reviews of some of the shops around that area at www.qype.com!
Thats my pick of the week, im going to have a scout and see what is on in and around Manchester in terms of events etc and will post those a little later on!
Ciao for now!

Its the weekend!!
Well its the weekend again! Time to get your glad rags on and party! Or of course, if youre a bit old for you time like me its time to stay in eat good food and watch the best of whats on tv or some films! New releases this week include Eastern Promise which is supposed to be really good!
Back to Manchester though, the best pick of whats on at the weekend is Newton Faulkner, who is playing a gig at the Apollo. Tickets are sold out im afraid (I have one!!) but its worth going down on the night to try and pick up a ticket from the box office if theres any that havent been picked up. His music is acoustic and he has shot to fame in the last 12 months with his unique style.
As every weekend, there is something on on sunday night at the Comedy Store, this sunday it is a new act night called King Gong, its a great way to finish of your weekend!
If your in the mood to go clubbing, Manchester offers a mixed bag of specialist nights in and around the city, Lounge 31 presents Bling Products, its a new club and on saturday night it plays the best of hip hop and r'n'b. At the other end of the spectrum Satans Hollow presents their Bodybag night, they play metal and rock to mosh to! Another Pick of the best this weekend is the Contort Yourself night at the Roadhouse on Newton Street which plays electro, funk, disco and rave supplied by Donovan and a Metronomy DJ set.
The filmworks is always a good place to go on a saturday night cause most people are too busy going out on the town to go to the cinema!!
If i hear of anything else exciting for the weekend i will post it!!
Enjoy your weekend!!
